Funeral Celebrancy

berries-1024x300The berries are significant because they are the seeds that drop to the ground, germinate and grow into a tree. Which blossoms in the Spring and have a certain beauty in the autumn. So it is with birth, recreatiing, ageing and death.

I am a Funeral Celebrant. But I don’t stop at that. I am also a Life Coach. Those two combined with my other niche all add up to Ageing with Vitality.

They are connected in one way because of course we consider that in life, the older we are, the closer we are to dying. While this is true, every one of us is closer to death than we think. Nobody knows what each day is going to bring.

Something that most people do not do in life is preparing for their death. Somehow it seems that if we ignore it, it won’t happen to us. When it does happen, a loved one dies, or we are told we have a terminal illness, it comes as a shock. We cannot believe this is happening. It is even worse when we are not prepared.

Once someone dies, the family tend to go the way of doing what the Funeral Director suggests for the ceremony. In the past, this has been either a religious or humanist ceremony. But now there is a growing tendency to turn to an Independent Funeral Celebrant. In a way, they are doing what a priest would have done if someone is affiliated with a church. But an IFC can design and lead a funeral that will suit any person’s beliefs or none beliefs.

On the day, I will be there to support the family through this sad time. I will work with the funeral director to get ti right for you, to give you closure, meaningful memories and help you to move on. I will meet with you beforehand where ever you are comfortable, and we can discuss together your loved one’s beliefs, interests, and character. From this, I will design a funeral service that includes poetry, music, readings and ritual that reflects the beliefs of the one who has died and sent you the draft of what I will do so that you can make any necessary adjustments.

I can offer you the choices of music etc., and tell you about what is possible in a funeral service. You will be surprised at the diverse ways that a funeral can be held. Although I am not a Funeral Director, I can give you ideas.

I am trained to a very high standard with Green Fuse, a Totnes company who have been doing this now for many years.

I am also offering my services to design a funeral for anyone who would like to arrange their funeral before they die. They can pop the printed document into their file with their will. That way the family will know exactly what you want. I have been hearing some very sad stories of the further stress caused to families when they don’t know what to do about their loved one’s funeral. You can save your families further distress by doing this for them.

As a funeral celebrant, highly trained with Green Fuse, I can support you with designing a ceremony that will bring treasured memories instead of the stark memories that some ceremonies can bring.

I will come to your home if it is physically possible, or meet in a place that suits us both. The family are welcome including small children. There we will discuss the beliefs, interests and character of the person who has died.

From this chat and with the use of music, poetry, ritual and readings, I will design a ceremony that reflect those beliefs, whatever they may be. You can have a mixture of beliefs if you would like that. It is possible to do a ceremony for someone with no beliefs if that is appropriate. There are no rules except of course to keep to dignity and respect.

I will write a script and send it to you to check that you like it. I have numerous resources for music etc. which I can supply you with for you to choose. Or you can leave the choice to me.

I can also explain the choices that you may have. Ideas that you may not ever have heard of or thought about. Funerals do not have to be drab affairs. Yet at the same time, because it is a sad time, the ceremony will not forget that.

Don’t let a time of sadness, bereavement and confusion, also be a time of despair because of a funeral that is meaningless.
