What is Your Ageing or Health Story?

Kindle_Cover_Edited

Are you struggling with weight?

Are you active enough?

Are you always at the doctors surgery?

Are you ageing with vitality?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O3HGHNK – http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O3HGHNK                                  Are you bored?

I bet that you could find something that you really want to do or be, but you have a story that is holding you back.

It could be that you believe the reason why you are not able to achieve your goal is a genuine one. But why not just write THE END to the old story and begin a new one.

For example. You have contacted a friend and he or she has not answered. In your mind you think, she doesn’t like me anymore, or she is too busy for the likes of me, or I bet she’s out enjoying herself somewhere and doesn’t care. When you eventually find out that she had lost her phone, or was with someone and could not be disturbed, there is sigh of relief and you realise that what you did was to make up a story. And every time a similar circumstance comes up, you re-write the old story.

Let’s  take a problem such as losing weight. It could be that you have tried every diet under the sun and it has not worked. So you have given up trying. How true is your story? Have you really tried every diet under the sun? And if you think that you have, could there be another way, other than dieting?

Take activity, you may have persuaded yourself that you are an active person and that you get plenty of exercise. You go to the gym, or have tried that, but it makes you so tired and hungry that have given it up as a dead loss. Have you thought of trying another way rather than just giving up?

Visiting the doctor for every little ache, pain or concern, can be a bad habit. Or it could be that you are bored. Or it could be that it is your hobby in life to talk about illness instead of just finding out what your condition is, research it, deal with it the best way possible, put it on the back burner and get on with your life.

Are you feeling your age? Do you feel older than your years? Are you blaming everything on your age?

Are you really bored or are you just lifeless with no motivation?

Or are you still living the old story?

I have just watched a Tony Robbins talk on TV in which he talks about how to win in life. He talks about motivation, strategy and how to infuence people, but he reckons that the single biggest thing that holds people back is their story.

What is yours?

What is really stopping you?

Are you telling the same story over and over again in life and not even considering that you could change it?

You do have a choice! You can change it!

What ever you may be feeling that you stuck in, or a failure at, how could you change the story?

Put a stop to procrastination, fear and using your old story as an excuse.

If you are stuck in the old story with your weight, or any food issues, there are two reports that you can obtain FREE with no subscription sign up, and I promise that you will not hear any more from me unless you want to, if you just write to me by email and request one or the other or even both. The Ageing Adventure.

happycherry_coverI thought today that I would give you some idea of where I have been and where I am going, and why I believe that I can support people in their own ageing adventure.

I started working with older people forty years ago as a care assistant in residential homes, having realised that I had a vocation for that.

Through that, I learnt what makes people in general tick and observed the different ways that people age. Some strong and cheerful even through great adversity, and others bitter and twisted and very difficult to care for.

This implanted in me a desire to make sure that I would not go into my own ageing with unforgiveness and lack of a loving attitude towards my fellow humans.

I opened my own care home after a lot of hard work, passing social services inspections, having converted and painted and decorated, and furnishing a house from scratch, while still working on a night shift. Getting about four hours of sleep a day, over many weeks.

I left the caring profession after a very difficult personal experience with divorce and loss and then meeting and marrying my second husband. But still found myself caring and supporting Elderly neighbours

I also gained experience of the middle age population and enjoyed observing them, by becoming involved with the WI as president of my local meeting, and also did two years on the Cornwall Executive commitee.

At the age of 67, I was introduced to Life Coaching, which in turn led me to realise how much I loved learning. I had not had much oppurtunity at school and left at the age of 15, then married at 19, and went on to having three children and was “just a Naval Housewife”.

I had been led into Life coaching by a friend who was impressed with how healthy I was, and had kept my weight under control. She was convinced that weight management would be a good way for me to go, under the auspice of Life coaching. So I went to University, part time, at the age of 67.

Because of my backgroud of bingeing and dieting for over forty years, I felt right about this. I then went onto writing books about the subject and designing a website.

http://www.patriciacherrylifecoach.com

Then someone spotted that I was a good ambassador for ageing well. At the age of 70 I joined Damsels in Success, which is a personal development group for business women.

So I turned my interest to Ageing with Vitality.

And here I am. Long story-short.

So what now then?

I have recognised that people who are ageing are often operating from a place of fear. Fear of ageing and fear of dying.

So the next few blogs will be about these subjects and to explain my next steps in the adventure of supporting people in these areas.

Watch this space.

Food; Friend, Fun or Foe?

christmas2012 009

For over forty years, I considered myself a victim. To;

  • My Self Image
  • My ugly body
  • The fat on my body
  • Foods that just triggered me off
  • A compulsion to just carry on eating, even when fullSodDieting
  • Dieting to get rid of the fat and feelings of loathing
  • Calorie counting
  • Fat units
  • Food intolerance
  • Addiction
  • My fat belly

It took me nearly a life time to discover the root of why I have always had this battle. One of them being that as a child I was always being told to tuck my tummy in, and as a 14 year old I was issued with a corset to keep it in.

This message was not only coming to me from my Mother, but from my gran and also a teacher at school who was the ring leader in calling me GubGub after the pig in Dr Dolittles adventures.

I don’t blame any of them now, but I did for a long time, even of I was unaware of it.

Many new regimes of eating in our modern days, look at the physical side of control. But there is another deeper side to it all. Much like trying to run a car that keeps breaking down. Just filling it with more fuel, or a different type of fuel, will not fix the problem if it is the battery that is flat. So it is with humans. If we keep just thrusting down feelings, memories and resentment, we will never get to the root of the problem. Our batteries will always be flat.

Getting into the right place is not necessarily just about looking great. When we have an “inner” glow, we can look fantastic.

Part of my inner work that freed me up was forgiveness for all those people who gave me a false message, which I lived by.

I have had quite a journey over the years, some of it exciting, some not, but always challenging.

It is a wonderful thing to be free of the tyranny of forever worrying about my shape and my looks.

How do you go about finding that inner glow, which gives you confidence in yourself, and frees you up from the necessity of the “Forever Diet?”

I would love to hear your comments.

Ageing and Calorie Restriction.

SodDieting

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B011L100OC http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011L100OC

Today I thought you may be interested in looking at the positive side of calorie restriction.

If you follow my writings and books, you will know that I advise people not to count calories.

However what I do say is that we need to be aware of them.

There are some regimes around that encourage people to just eat as much as they like as long as they eat natural foods, without any additives, or processing and have been adulterated out of all recognition of how food was meant to be consumed by humans.

This is so true!

Many people find that once they do eat naturally they do not crave more food than their body needs, so the amount of calories that they consume is reduced automatically.

This will work if you have never had problems with bingeing, sugar addiction, or eating disorders.

1(For more on bingeing problems and the results that they can leave you with, you can obtain a FREE report from me without subscribing, by sending me a private email requesting one, I will return it to you with a promise to not keep sending you more emails. trishcherry734@gmail.com)

As we grow older, the body naturally reduces the appetite. So therefore we need to trust what our body is telling us, and eat less.

Simples!

We all have a source within us that is not being heard or listened to.

As history has progressed and we have moved further away from nature and that source, we are losing the ability to be aware of what our body actually needs.

Have a look at how aware you are as you grow older.

One way of telling if you eat too much is whether you suffer from indigestion!

If you eat a moderate amount of natural foods then this will not happen.

(However the body may be suffering from digestive disorders because of the abuse we gave them with the onslaught earlier in life, even if we did not binge, but simply ate the wrong foods. It is never too late to change that.)

So when you hear about restrictive intake of calories, just remember that the essential thing is to;

  1. Be aware of what your body is telling you.
  2. Only eat natural wholesome foods.
  3. Stay away from sugary, starchy, processed junk.
  4. Watch your portions.
  5. Stop eating when you are full.

Then the calories will take care of themselves without going to the extreme measures of plates full of nothing but leaves!

I’ll Do It Dreckly!!

cherry blossom

That’s the expression that the Cornish use for “Later on!”

This is number 1 of a series of blogs which I am sending out for the next thirty days, about Ageing With Vitality.

We need to do two things in life.

Live in the “Now”.

Prepare for the future.

So how do you marry them up to make a rich and fulfilling life?

Let me give you an example. This is my story for the last four years. It would take a book to cover the previous 67!

Four years ago, I contacted a life long friend and life coach, because I knew that she could help me get over a deep depression. Through working with her, and getting myself sorted out in various parts of my life such as the death of my Father, the death of an uncle, illness of close friends and family, my life changed.

I went on to solving a life long problem with binge eating, doing a Life Coaching Diploma, becoming a writer, blogger, and setting up a small business helping others.

Added to that was that I could use all the skills that I had been building up in my previous 67 years!

By making choices and changes, studying, learning, researching, moving house, I am now happier than I have ever been in my life. All in the last four years, and by no means very young.

The most important thing is that I feel fulfilled, and am enjoying the journey.

What I did in effect was to decide that I needed to prepare for a future, which for me was the approaching third part of my life, but I also enjoyed the process.

I lived in the “Now” by making choices straight away and enjoying what I did, but I also had found a vision for what I wanted to do, and realised what I was passionate about. (Helping others make their lives better!)

I could have just stayed on anti-depressents, stayed stuck in the rut that I was in, stayed safe, yet making my life increasingly difficult by doing so.

I could have seen that I needed to make choices and changes, but told myself that I would do it “Dreckly!” Allowing fear of change to get in my way.

Some people I knew spent the final 30 years after they retired, living in a miserable place, but their dream was to move to a Devon seaside town. Because they always had a reason not to make any move at all, they never got there while still alive. What they did achieve was to be buried there!

Don’t let this be you. Even after retirement you can make choices and changes.

It is not too late.

I will however add to that, the later you leave it the more difficult it will be.

Sod Dieting, Just Eat!

SodDieting

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B011L100OC http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011L100OC

So what is it about? Simply; the politics of dieting.

We all have policies that we live by. Much of the time we don’t realise how these politics rule our lives. Our own as well as the people we depend on. Government bodies as well as the food and diet industries.

This book is for readers who want to lose weight because they think that maybe a few pounds lighter would make a big difference to their lives.

People who are obese or grossly overweight, may find it useful too, but the author’s main purpose is to help the ones who go on diet after diet, and their lives are under the tyranny of the scales. Their mood changes from good if the scales are a few pounds down, to not so good if the number has gone up.

Many fall into a pattern of bingeing and starving, because of the physical malnourishment of very low calories. Just as many also fail to recognise emotional needs and use food as a substitute.

It is not a diet book, it is an informative and insightful one on how to eat a healthy diet and stay away from restrictive calorie counting and permanent hunger for the rest of your life.

It is a how-to book on avoiding the pitfalls that people can fall into with watching their weight.

The author is an expert, because after being a chronic dieter for over forty years, she has now found a way to be free from the tyranny of the scales.

But because of all the past abuse of her body with bingeing one moment and putting on 28 pounds at a time, then starving the next and losing it over and over again, her body is now rebelling and she can eat very little to maintain it.

The reason why she has put the proverbial pen to paper is because her passion in life is to get the message across to people that dieting is a road full of potholes and it is not easy to avoid them if you persist in going on one diet after another.

The secret is to find a way of eating that suits you, the individual, and not someone else’s idea of what you should or should not eat. There are no rules, just an idea of making up your own. To keep portions low, not let yourself get hungry and eat only nourishing foods.

She has written two other books along the same lines, and you will find the first chapter of Sod Dieting is repeated in “Design Your Own Diet” which is on Amazon Kindle.

If you are a chronic dieter, you will find yourself identifying with much of what she has said and experienced. So read and enjoy and learn how you too can escape the everlasting tyranny of the scales and the constant obsession with what to eat.

Patricia is now a Life Coach, specialising in Making Diet; History. Your history. She also helps people to stop bingeing on food that is not nourishing, but just simply adding weight by consuming “empty calories”

Then when you find your liberation, you too can help others in turn to make their dieting into history. Thus spreading the word that in all the time we have been dieting, obesity and food issues are worse than they have ever been.

Put on Weight or Lose it That is the Question.

Have a look at this.

From the UK NHS.

  • Base your meals on starchy carbohydrates, such as bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. Choose wholegrain varieties wherever you can, or eat potatoes with their skins on for more fibre.
  • Eat at least five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day. Find out how you can get your 5 A DAY.
  • Choose some lean protein, which can be meat, fish, eggs, beans, pulses and other non-dairy sources.
  • Include some milk and dairy foods, such as cheese and yoghurt. These are great sources of protein and calcium.
  • Have only a small amount of foods high in fat and/or sugar, or eat them less often.
  • Cut down on saturated fat, found in processed meats, pies, cakes and biscuits.
  • Cut down on sugary foods and drinks such as chocolate, cakes and biscuits, and sugary soft drinks.

Which do you think it’s for? Losing weight, or putting it on?

I will leave you to find out.

Eating Compulsively?

Pair of red wet cherry fruit on stem with green leaf isolated on white

Do you have problems with guilt when you eat something that you consider you should not have eaten?

Do you find yourself out of control with some foods?

Do you think that there is something wrong with you when this happens?

Well look no further!  Guess what? You are normal!!!

Because most people do these things.

There are three main reasons why this happens.

1. Humans naturally eat when they need comfort.

2. Carbohydrate is natures sedative and thats why you go for it.

3. The Food industry employs people to make foods addictive!

So do not worry any more that there is something wrong with you.

Us and Them!

Untitled-1People are anxious to improve their circumstances, but unwilling to improve themselves. They therefore remain bound. James Allen

We hear a lot about the environment ruining our health.

We hear a lot about the way that humans do not take care of the environment, and how it is ruining the state of the planet.

We blame the Food companies, Pharmaceutical companies, the Government, our doctors and on and on.

Always “Them” but how often do we look at “Us?”

But how willing are we to do something about it?

SodDieting

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B011L100OC http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011L100OC

Take health for example.

In the days of the internet, thousands of books, television and newspapers, we have all the information and knowledge that is available to us, yet many people just sit and claim that their ill health is someone else’s fault.

Claims are made that they are confused with conflicting advice. “They say one thing one minute and another the next” is heard so often in conversations.

Even articles in the newspaper can be confusing as we read them. Just this week I read an article on a new book about gut flora and obesity. Part of the article was to say that beer can be good, and the writer would have said something along the lines that beer has plenty of flora in it.

But the journalist then made his own little extra box, with the headline. “Good news; beer is ok!” and went on to say that wine and beer are healthy. Many people would not bother to find out what that was all about and claim that the paper said that it is ok for us drink alcohol.

The point that I am making here is that we all need to do our own research using the tools that I mentioned earlier.

You might then say that all this information can still be confusing.

I agree. So what to do?

Look within!

We have been given by nature and God, the ability to use our own wisdom and judgment. These days He has given us some fantastic tools to go along with that. Do you ever get a gut feeling about something?

You may be reading, or watching television, and you get this feeling that something is not quite right.

I bet that before now you have been talking to someone and you know that they are lying. Where do you think that feeling comes from? It is commonly known as our Gut feeling, or instinct or intuition. I have heard it called discernment too.

Or even more importantly how far within ourselves are we willing to look?

How willing are we to think, really think, about what could be the answer?

Do we just sit back and let others tell us what to do?

Do we just jump on the next seemingly good idea that comes along?

Then blame “them” when the diet fails, or we cannot stick to our new healthy way of living.

Another idea that springs to mind is the story of a famous runner, whose name escapes me, who, years ago encouraged many to take up jogging, then died of a heart attack. So many people then gave up running or would not take it up because it seemed that running was dangerous.

How many of those people actually bothered to find out the facts themselves?

Most of us have the ability to find out for ourselves what the truth is.

Then to follow our intuition about what is right for each one of us. Therein lies the key! We are all different and have different needs.

Not just on a level of “That sounds good, I’ll try that.”  But by finding out for ourselves and using our intuition.

So are you going to find out what is the truth and be conscious about your choice?

I will examine where consciousness comes into it on another blog. But maybe this one will give you food for thought.

You have the inner ability and wisdom to find out for yourself what is right for you!
